Club Championships

The Club runs two Championships, one for modern bows and one for traditional bows. Traditional archers are invited to shoot in the modern championships but will be classed as shooting a recurve.

Modern Championships

To allow all Club members to compete in the modern championships, it is divided into several categories based on the individual archer's classification as follows:

Category A

Members who have obtained their First Class, or above, will compete in a York for men and a Hereford for women. Trophies and medals will be presented for first, second and third in each round. Members unable to reach 80 yards should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships for permission to shoot in Category C.

Category B

Members who have obtained their Second Class will compete in a Long National for both men and women. Trophies and medals to be presented for men’s and women’s first, second and third places. Members who have obtained their Second Class and want to take part in Category A should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships. Members unable to reach 80 yards should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships for permission to shoot in Category C.

Category C

Members who have been shooting for two or more years, will compete in a National round. Trophies and medals to be presented for men’s and women’s first, second and third places. Trophies will also be awarded to the highest scoring gent and lady in their second year. Members unable to reach 60 yards should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships for permission to shoot in Category D.

Category D

All seniors in their first year will shoot a Short National round. Trophies will be presented for first place in the men’s and women’s competition, and medals only for second and third places. Beginners who want to take part in Category C should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships. However, they should be aware that they can only shoot for the beginner’s trophy in their first year.

Category E

Junior members aged 12 – 16 will shoot a Short National.
Junior members aged 16 – 18 will shoot a National round.
Trophies will be awarded for first junior gent and first junior lady places, medals only for second and third places. All juniors in their first year will shoot a Short National unless 16 – 18 year-olds feel confident enough to shoot a National round, in which case they should apply to the Records Officer at least two weeks before the Championships.

2nd year handicap trophies

There are two additional trophies for the highest scoring Senior Lady and Senior Gent (based on their handicap) shooting in their second season.

Traditional Championships

Open to all ages and standards, archers will shoot a two-way Western. Bows must be of wooden construction with no sight other than a rubber band or mark on the bow. Arrows must be made of wood and fletched with feathers.
