Annual Pagoda Shoot 2006
Sunday 23rd April 2006
Royal Richmond Archery Club, Richmond, Surrey held its 7th annual Pagoda Shoot on Sunday, 23rd April 2006.
St George's Day was celebrated by Brian Murrell of Hertford Company of Archers shooting a new compound National record for an Albion round. The old record stood at 958. Brian has raised it to 970, just two points short of the maximum score when one arrow slipped into the red. The result was more remarkable given the conditions. Although there was little or no wind, there was a constant drizzle for most of the day.
If ratified by the GNAS, this is the second National record shot at Royal Richmond's Pagoda Shoot. In 2005, Clinton Hill of Ten Ring Archery broke the Men's Albion Longbow record.
The Pagoda Shoot has grown and grown in popularity and, this year, 174 archers entered. This meant that the shoot had to be divided into two. The Albions were on the usual site on Richmond Cricket Club's ground. The Windsors were shot on the other side of the Old Deer Park on Royal Richmond's own field.
The next Pagoda Shoot will be on 15 April 2007. The entry form will be on the website later this year.
