Annual Pagoda Shoot 2009

On Sunday, 19th April, archers gathered at The Old Deer Park on Kew Road for the 10th Annual Pagoda Shoot. Bows used were longbows, recurve and compounds with traditional wooden arrows and modern aluminium and carbon fibre arrows. Distances shot ranged from 80 yards to 40 yards.
The Royal Richmond Archery Club first organised this event to celebrate the Millennium and it marks the beginning of the outdoor archery season. The shoot is run under the rules of the Grand National Archery Society and has become a shoot at which National records can be recognised and broken.
The Royal Richmond Archery Club was established in 1873 on its present site of Old Deer Park. As well as serious archery, novelty shoots are held throughout the year and members enjoy a number of social events. Beginners’ courses are held in June each year.
