Annual Pagoda Shoot - Sunday 19th April 2009
The Royal Richmond Archery Club first organised this event to celebrate the Millennium and it marks the beginning of the outdoor archery season. The shoot is run under the rules of the Grand National Archery Society and has become a shoot at which National records can be recognised and broken.
This year celebrates the Pagoda Shoot's 10th anniversary and we will be awarding a special trophy.
The event is held at Royal Richmond's own grounds. Our fields have a beautiful view of the Pagdoda at Kew Gardens, and this is where the name for the event came from.

Pagoda Shoot 2007 - Windor Round
Record-breaking Event
For three years running records have been broken at the Pagoda Shoot. In 2007 the Girls’ Junior Compound National record for an Albion round was broken by Mary Perrott, aged 14 from Abbey Bowmen, St. Alban’s. She smashed the record of 793 with a score of 836.
In 2006 Brian Murrell of Hertford Company of Archers shot a new compound National record for an Albion round. The old record stood at 958. Brian has raised it to 970, just two points short of the maximum score when one arrow slipped into the red. The result was more remarkable given the conditions. Although there was little or no wind, there was a constant drizzle for most of the day.
In 2005, Clinton Hill of Ten Ring Archery broke the Men's Albion Longbow record.
The Rounds
The rounds shot are Albion and Windsor, with the Windsor round being shot on the rugby grounds nearest the Pagoda and the Albion round being shot on the cricket pitch near the pavilion.
Windsor Round: 3 dozen arrows at 60 yards, 3 dozen arrows at 50 yards and 3 dozen arrows at 40 yards.
Albion Round: 3 dozen arrows at 80 yards, 3 dozen arrows at 60 yards and 3 dozen arrows at 50 yards.
Trophies and medals
Trophies and medals are awarded for first, second and third lady, gentleman and junior for recurve, compound and traditional.
