Handicaps

Handicap allowances for the round shot by each archer are given in the GNAS rules of shooting. No further adjustment is necessary for mixed shoots (eg, different rounds, bow type, gender and/or age category).

The allowance, based on the archer's current handicap, is added to the actual score achieved to give the final handicap-adjusted score. Because the allowances are based on the archer's current handicap, any advantage gained by more accurate bow-types or experience, etc. has already been taken into account. It has the effect of leveling the playing field.

The allowances have been calculated so that any archer shooting exactly to his current handicap will achieve an adjusted score of 1440 on any round.

When a member shoots at the club or in competition elsewhere, they should submit their score to the Records Officer who will then calculate, from the tables in their possession, the handicap value for that score and round.

A handicap is finally given after three such scores have been submitted and an average of the three handicap values has been calculated.
